How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Laser Hair Removal

Tired of waxing, plucking or shaving? Then you may want to try laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is a safe and virtually painless treatment that helps reduce or eliminate hair growth. It is useful for removing unwanted hair from the arms, legs, face, and bikini line, underarm, and other areas and is an excellent choice for long-lasting results.

If you’re considering laser hair removal, then we urge you to read on. There are some things you need to know before you head to your first appointment. Here are some of them.

Shave the areas before the treatment

We only need 2 mm of visible hair for the laser to work. To ensure your treatment is effective, we advise that you trim or shave all the hair from the area one or two days before your appointment.

Shaving is fine, but you should refrain from waxing, threading or plucking the areas to be treated. These hair removal methods can disturb the hair follicle; hence, reducing the effectiveness of the laser treatment.

Avoid tanning and sun exposure

The skin should be as light as possible at the time of treatment. Avoid tanning beds a month before the procedure. Also, avoid sun exposure to the treatment area. Make sure that you apply sunblock with at least SPF 30 before heading out. This is especially important if you are to stay outdoors for an extended period of time.

If you are a beach babe, we highly recommend that you start your treatment during the winter months. Sun exposure to any area being treated with laser can lead to darkening of the skin. You may need to reschedule your appointment if you are sunburned or tanned.

Shower prior to your appointment

The area needs to be completely clean prior to treatment. It is best to come in freshly showered before coming in. It would be really awkward and embarrassing to be exposed to your therapist if you come in sweaty or dirty.

Skip the moisturizer

Do not apply moisturizers or any products after showering. That means, no lotions, creams, oils or anything that is applied topically to the area. Sometimes, the ingredients in beauty products can affect the results of laser hair removal treatment. Your shower gel should be enough to leave you with a nice, fresh smell.
