Botox is common place these days. In fact, it is among the most popular cosmetic procedures today. A growing number of women have started turning to Botox to erase existing lines and fight the signs of aging. Some people are even using it as a preemptive strike against wrinkles.
Safe alternative to surgery
Botox is great for treating facial wrinkles. A quick injection here and there can take years off of your face. It works by relaxing the muscles beneath the wrinkled areas. It gives a noticeably younger look and delivers the results you desire without undergoing a surgical procedure. It is minimally invasive and doesn’t even require the patient to undergo anesthesia.
Botox is a pretty convenient treatment. It only involves a few small injections. The procedure typically takes 20 minutes to perform. This is why it is known as a “lunchtime procedure”.
Let’s face it. Botox isn’t cheap. The cost will depend on the area to be treated. Expect to pay around $150 to $800 per session. It may be quite expensive, but it is less costly than a facelift. Considering that the effect will last for several months, it’s not a crazy amount to pay. For best results, it is best to schedule an appointment every 3 to 4 months.
Unlike surgery, there is no downtime for Botox. Patients may experience mild swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site, but this will subside within a few hours. Also, this shouldn’t affect your ability to perform day-to-day activities. In fact, you can go back to work right after the procedure. Although, we suggest that you avoid strenuous exercises for 24 hours to ensure a speedy recovery and smooth results. It is also not a good idea to put any skin care products with active ingredients or massage the area for a couple of days.
Contrary to what most people think, the effect of Botox injections aren’t immediate. Often, patients notice the effect within 3 to 5 days after injection. But full results become visible after 14 days. If you are planning to go on vacation or attend an important event, we highly recommend that you schedule a consultation and injection at least 2 weeks before the event to enjoy optimal results.
Aside from its cosmetic benefits, Botox carries a number of medical uses. In fact, it’s also used for treating certain medical conditions. For years, doctors have been using Botox to treat migraines, crossed eyes, cervical dystonia, and excessive sweating. It wasn’t until the 1990s that the cosmetic benefits came to light.
