How do you know you're choosing the right permanent make-up artist?

Here's some advice from Christine, our SPA certified expert:

"Ask your technician to see their Colorado state license and their permanent makeup certification (these are both required in Colorado). Also, any advanced certificates or continuing education in the field. While many feel these are just papers, these papers support your technicians passion for excellence in the field and they value their work on your face. I feel one class is just an intro. You don't want to offer up your face to someone that is just "trained," you want someone who has mastered the skill. Ask your technician to share their portfolio of before and after photos including HEALED results. If they have none or just handful, they are still a novice. A novice is fine, but the proof of their skill is in photos and results. Ensure your technician does not work from home. This is unsanitary to say the least. If they are performing this service in a nail salon or hair salon, be cautious to the facility sanitation. After all, your skin is going to be opened and exposed, just make sure the area is CLEAN!  Finally, listen to how the technician talks to you. I want my clients comfortable with me and I have to be comfortable with them. This service is not for everyone. If your technician is quick to get you booked rather than talk you through the process including contraindications, they don't have your best interests in mind."
